Tiago Sousa Golf Association

This website and the Golf tournament is to honour our son Tiago Sousa, who was a student of the University of the South West in Hobbs, New Mexico in the United States. It will be held on the 16th of August in Quinta do Lago on the South Course and will be a Shotgun start. On the 15th of March 2022 the team was on the way back to the University from a College Golf tournament when they got involved in a tragic accident. Our 18 year old son Tiago, 5 of his team mates and his coach all lost their lives. The day we received the call, the world broke down for us. We want to honour our son with this tournament and his love for the sport that meant so much to him. This tournament is a Family event as he loved it to be around people, he was a caring, open-minded person that had a big heart and enjoyed life and spending time with people in general, age was not important to him. We have no doubts he would love and be honoured to have a tournament in memory of him where families play together and enjoy the game he loved. This will bring a smile to his face while he watches us from above today. Tiago was living his dream, Golf was his biggest passion … he worked so hard to get the scholarship to play and study in the USA and when he got the information he was accepted he was so happy and excited! He was working hard over there every day to get better in Golf and his school grades were on top of the class. Tiago also loved teaching and helping the younger ones so they could achieve what he did. With the funds that we will raise during this event we will start a project together with the Paul McGinley Golf Academy, ODL Resort and the Portuguese Golf Federation to have a Golf Professional go to the schools and start bringing the sport to them to embrace the game of Golf. We will call it “Tiago Sousa Golf Project”. Our goal is to show kids that have never been close to Golf the sport and bring it closer to them and get more young kids to start the sport Tiago loved. We hope you enjoy the experience and will spread the word so that this will be an event that lives on for a long time and we can keep his memory alive and spread his love for Golf.
